CHAPTER 10

Healed

Donna Layne knew she served a miracle-working God! She and our family prayed for God to remove a large cyst that was located in the very back of her throat, in the pharynx.

The days and weeks passed and she experienced no noticeable change in her condition. The painful and annoying condition reminded her something was very wrong each time she spoke words or even swallowed food or water.

Donna scheduled an appointment with an ENT specialist. Dr. Reiber was a very personable man, and he seemed to be very knowledgeable in his field of expertise. He advised Donna to have an operation, allowing him to remove the cyst. She agreed to have the procedure.

Our daughter, Donna, and I met at the Surgery Center on the day of the operation. After registration, a nurse escorted Donna to the restricted surgery area beyond the lobby.

Perhaps an hour and a half passed before the surgeon appeared in the waiting room and approached me. He looked a bit confused, and he began to explain what just happened.

Dr. Reiber spoke in amazement, saying, “I went in to remove the cyst but it was gone! It was there, but it is not there now. She is waking up now, but she did not have surgery. Only an indentation remains, indicating something was once there. There is no need for surgery!”

I voiced my thanks to God and expressed my faith to Dr. Reiber, telling him I believed in God’s power to heal. I did not understand why God chose to heal sometimes and not always, but I trusted His authority and His judgment. Dr. Reiber agreed with me, yet he seemed to be a little puzzled. I suppose Dr. Reiber and I both knew God had used him to document and authenticate a miraculous healing!

Donna awoke, signed the necessary forms and walked out of the medical facility. It is amazing to witness God’s extraordinary power when He intervenes and allows us to observe His actions!

Donna was aware the cyst existed when she arrived at the facility—the cyst vanished between the time she walked out of the lobby and the time she re-entered the lobby!

Each of us knew we had experienced something astonishing and supernatural! How very like God to validate His exceptional work about answered prayer by using an unsuspecting, scientifically minded physician as a witness. Many years have passed since that happened, but I clearly remember what an incredible experience that was!
